Overview: This role will lead the sport in England and internationally into a new era. Building on the excellent work of our outgoing CEO, we have a clear strategy, a strong Chair and supportive Board with an outstanding management team. The next challenges include bringing the Table Tennis United strategy to life, growing the sport and strengthening the commercial and digital foundations as we build up to a World Championships being hosted in this country in 2026.
Detail: Reporting to the Chair and with responsibility as part of the Board of Directors, the CEO is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the organisation and leading the implementation of goals and objectives with and through the Senior Leadership Team, wider staff and other stakeholders.
With a budget responsibility of c£5.000.000 per annum, the position is based at Table Tennis England Headquarters in Milton Keynes with regular National and International travel.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategy execution
- Influencing, developing and driving the Table Tennis United strategy in conjunction with the Board
- Directing the implementation plans on a day-to-day basis (including managing associated budgets)
- Committed to “Levelling the Table” and leading with the intention of tackling inequalities and ensuring that everyone involved in our Sport is treated fairly, equitably, with dignity & respect.
- Delivering TTE’s major events strategy through our joint venture with the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF)
Leadership and Management
- Leading with empathy and providing motivational leadership to all employees
- Maintaining and further developing the organisational culture, values and reputation of TTE
- Acting at all times as an ambassador and high-level spokesperson
- Optimising the efficiency of Table Tennis England, ensuring the effectiveness of recruitment, development and well-being of its people
- Able to lead and manage transformational change to evolve the sport and organisation
Finance & Governance
- Taking responsibility for the financial performance of the organisation
- Ensuring TTE continues to hold itself (and is compliant) to the highest standards of governance and the Code for Sports Governance (as set by Sport England and UK Sport)
- Seeking to continually develop and improve governance and operations
- Work with the Head of Performance to develop performance through delivery of the GB Table Tennis performance programme and talent pathways within England to help foster future elite level medal success.
- Developing the sport to optimise brand, marketing and digitisation opportunities
- Leading the development of own income streams to support financial performance
Stakeholder relations
- Managing and developing key stakeholder relationships (i.e. UK Sport, Sport England, DCMS) to stay abreast of best practices in sport management and governance
- Lead the relationships with key funding bodies to include the preparation and submission of high quality funding applications to maximise investment into the sport
- Building effective relationships with groups that represent our 25,000 members as well as the non-member playing community and ensuring that the needs of clubs, players, coaches and volunteers are understood
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
Skills and Abilities:
- Substantial experience of motivating, leading and managing a high quality, multi-disciplinary professional and volunteer team in a customer or membership-focused environment
- An effective leadership style and approach with a sound knowledge of typical priorities within a National Governing Body with the fortitude and resilience to deliver them
- Strong project management skills
- Excellent financial awareness, with a proven ability to control budgets and forecasts is essential for this role
- Ability to drive change within the Sport and more broadly within the sector, whilst taking the membership and the wider organisation with you on the journey
- Commercially astute with a good understanding of sponsorship and how to develop a strategy to enhance the partnerships potential for the organisation  Experience of developing a brand
- Experience of digital transformation, ideally of a sporting body
Knowledge:
- An awareness, understanding and appreciation of/for the sport.
- A strong understanding of the reporting requirements of UK Sport & Sport England
- A strong understanding of producing funding applications and maximising public funding
- Knowledge of government guidance and core legislation regarding
- Background knowledge or awareness of the principles of safeguarding
- Background knowledge or awareness of the principles of anti-doping
- A good understanding of how digital transformation can enable efficiencies and generate commercial opportunities.
