** SEARCH CONCLUDED ** Independent Non-Executive Chairman
GB Taekwondo is responsible for the preparation, management and performance of elite British athletes at the Olympic Games and at World and European Championships.
Their athletes have achieved tremendous multi-medal success at the last two Olympic Games, in London and Rio. Funding for both the World Class Performance programme and Talent Pathway programme has recently been confirmed by UK Sport and Sport England, for the next cycle through to 31 March 2021.
In addition to GB Taekwondo’s annual programme of events, London has won the right to host the 2017 World Para-Taekwondo Championships – the first time Britain has staged the prestigious tournament. The event will take place at the Copperbox Arena in October and run in conjunction with the WTF World Taekwondo Grand Prix. In addition, the sport’s world governing body awarded the World Taekwondo Championship to Manchester in 2019. The WTF’s decision is a major boost for the sport in the UK at the start of a new four-year Paralympic and Olympic cycle concluding with Tokyo 2020.
GB Taekwondo is now seeking a new Independent Non-Executive Chair to lead and manage the Board in the development of a vision, strategy and policies in collaboration with the Executive. There are four Board meetings a year, which will either be held at the head office in Manchester or London. Key responsibilities of this role will include:
- Strategic responsibility for GB Taekwondo in conjunction with the Board
- Ensuring that the Board operates in line with the Code for Sports Governance, and that it demonstrates the highest standards of integrity
- Maintaining positive relationships with major external stakeholders
- Chairing the Board meetings, creating a culture of openness, debate and collaboration
- Providing advice and guidance to the Executive
The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of elite sport, be able to demonstrate a strong track record of non-executive experience, with a knowledge of governance. You will be a natural leader who inspires exceptional performance. The successful candidate will not necessarily need to have experience in the sport sector.
