A thriving and rapidly growing foods business, offering a range of specialist products, is seeking a Commercial Director to further develop the marketing strategy, run day-to-day operations and steer the growth of the business. The organisation is growing by 40% per annum and further food products will be launched and marketed via supermarkets and online. The next phase of growth is to rapidly expand the international markets, whilst continuing to develop and oversee the strong UK brand presence. The ideal candidate should have the credentials to step up into the Managing Director position within a short period of time. The rapid growth plans are backed by a substantial equity offering for this position.

THE ROLE

 Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Chairman, take responsibility for the commercial growth and day-to-day running of the business
  • Lead and develop key personnel, providing personal development plans and ensuring that there are robust processes and procedures throughout the business
  • Responsibility for the marketing department, including brand managers and marketing executives
  • Responsibility for the finance department, overseeing the Financial Controller, ensuring targets and timescales are set and achieved
  • Work with the production manager and planning team to ensure successful operations of the factory site
  • Building on current contacts and market knowledge to target and grow specific international opportunities
  • Oversee the ongoing growth of sales within the UK Market  
  • Achievement of key milestones set out for the business
  • Attend Board meetings and provide the relevant management information required by the Board, showing trends and developments in the operations and business performance 

Person Specification

  • Experience of developing marketing strategy in both a business to business and business to consumer environment 
  • First class digital marketing skills through managing an on-line brand 
  • Strong financial management skills and knowledge particularly balance sheet, profit and loss and cash flow  
  • A collaborative style of leadership, adept at being able to work in a hands-on environment as well as developing and driving strategy 
  • Entrepreneurial with the ability to lead in a fast-paced organisation 
  • A successful track record of identifying and developing new international markets through a targeted approach 
  • Highly credible interpersonal skills with a strong level of professionalism 
  • Leadership experience within an organisation in the foods sector 
  • Experience of having worked in a leading FMCG organisation would be desirable 
  • The skills, knowledge and ability to step up to a Managing Director position within 6-12 months

  • Marketing (Brand Managers and Marketing Executives) 
  • Finance (Financial Controller and finance administration team, sales and purchase ledger clerks).  
  • Liaise with outsource selling operation
